Praise of a Good Woman

Proverbs 31
10 Who can find a virtuous woman?
For her price is far above rubies.

11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her,
so that he shall have no need of spoil.

12 She will do him  good and not evil
all the days of her life.

26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom;
and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

27 She looketh well to the ways of her household,
and eateth not the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praiseth her.

29 Many daughters have done virtuously,
but thou excellest them  all.

30 Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain:

As Christian women  we are all aware of the above Scripture.
And we all desire to walk in the above perfection, no matter how  PAINFUL....

HOWEVER.... Life is not always, a bunch of sweet smelling roses.
And we walk around day after day wearing a mask of what or who, we are suppose to be. .
Mechanically we talk, laugh and perform  at the right times, and none are aware of the gnawing grief behind the facade.


 Is this you I am  talking about?
At times, it has been me.

I have just returned from  a wonderful Ladies Retreat..  
A special time, a time preserved under the Heavens.
A time of leaving our homes and families behind so that we could take time to re-freshen our weary souls.

The teaching focus was on WOUNDS !
The Emotional, Mental and Spiritual WOUNDS of life. 
As humans we all respond to kindness and understanding. 
Sharing, talking and listening to each other, are all inspirational gifts of healing. Knowing someone understands and cares takes away the isolation of suffering in silence.

Our leader, an American lass gave her own testimony.  It touched all present in various ways.
She spoke of  applying the Armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) each morning in preparation for the daily assault from  satan, to ward off, his fiery darts.
 I used to do this.   And will begin again!
You know, " we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers in high places." Ephesians 2:12

Everyone has a story, you the reader, have yours.  Don't suffer alone. Find a counsellor and talk about it.
Jesus is the lover of your soul He cares.... just turn to Him  in prayer. He is that close.

LIVER KINDNESS TO BETTER HEALTH

Be kind to your liver and give it a rest. An overworked liver means poor health and high cholesterol

TRY THIS FOR A FEW DAYS OR A WEEK AT A TIME.

Consume at least four glasses of pure apple juice a day. Apple juice is a wonderful liver cleanser.

Avoid, animal fat and red meat. Dairy products, fried foods, margarine, soft drinks and commercial oils (canola, corn and sunflower).  Leaven bread.     (Use virgin olive oil.)


Drink eight to 10 glasses of water a day. With water flowing constantly through your kidneys and liver, it will flush out accumulating toxins. You don’t wash your car or clothes with coffee or soda. So also, water washes your insides best.


Consume lots of nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables. Always eat fruit BEFORE meals to cleanse. Raw food provides live enzymes. These are not found in cooked foods, and are critical in the cleansing process.


Wondering what to eat?


Breakfast: Fresh fruit, oatmeal made with water, pecans, soy milk and sweetened with honey.


Lunch: Fresh fruit, Salad vegetables (Tomato, lettuce, avocado, onion, cucumber, corn, asparagus, raw mushrooms,) with grilled fish.


Supper: Home made vegetable soup with vegetables, lentils and or dried cooked beans. Small amount rice or pasta added, Stir in spoonful olive oil when cooked.


Flat bread. Self raising flower mixed with water. Pour into hot frypan and cook both sides. God wants us to take care of our bodies and our health. He tells us:


“Don’t you realise that all of you together are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God lives in you. God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For Gods temple is Holy, and you are that temple.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Can You Pass The Love Test?

A LOVE LAB?

In 1986, Dr. John Gottman joined the University of Washington Department of Psychology and started the Family Research Laboratory


This received funding from the National Institute of Mental Health throughout it’s operation. The physiology laboratory, often referred to as the “Love Lab,” was where couples were screened, interviewed, and observed.


The Lab used video, heart rate monitors, and measures of pulse amplitude, jitteriness and skin conductivity. This information was coded using the Specific Affect Coding System (SPAFF) and techniques of math modelling to assess relationships and predict their pathways. The Lab combined a video data bank of hundreds of couples interacting at different time points in their relationship.

The data surveyed could evaluate whether or not couples had the love combination to sucessfully remain in a relationship together.

In God's Classroom

All night long I was given a Scripture; it wouldn’t leave me it kept on pounding.   At last I got up and wrote it down, He was telling me something.

“Don’t you realise that all of you together are the Temple of God and that the spirit of God, lives in you. God will destroy anyone who destroys this Temple. For Gods Temple is Holy.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17.

The day before I’d been given the opportunity to help someone. This person is a new Christian. She had lost her job and the debts were piling up, so she had gone on a drinking spree. After bringing her home, feeding her, giving coffee and allowing her ramblings for 3 hours I decided she was appropriate to go home. Depositing her back at her car, she laughingly informed me, she was going for more drinks….

I went to bed angry. I was angry at her.

So God dealt with me. AFTER ALL…Who was I, to judge ….   If God gave up on me that quickly each time I failed, where would I be to-day…… I never stop learning and growing in Him.
I am to love the unlovable…as Jesus did. I am to forgive the unforgivable…as Jesus did. Just as He loves me when I am unlovable!   And He forgives me, when I am unforgivable.

We are to be kind without judgement.
And sometimes that's not easy.

FIFTIES 'SEPIA CHILD'

Aged 4

A very shy country child, I attended a two teacher, twenty pupil school.

The building was a sturdy timber highset, built in the late 1800 era.

My mother did very well as a single parent, working to making sure all of her 5 children completed their schooling. This was no mean feat on a ‘woman’s’ wage.
I dreamed of being a dancer, although I knew it was an impossibility.
In High School I poured over Ballet books with a dreamy mind, and dotted on the likes of Dame Margot Fonteyn.... I was that lithe dancer on stage with the magic legs performing ‘Swan Lake’.

                                                         Aged 16
Passing the Intermediate Certificate in High school was all that was required in my time to attain a promising career. To be a doctor or lawyer meant 2 extra years and a pass in the Leaving Certificate. Since my chances as a dancer were extinct, my next choice was Hairdressing.
This was not to be either as my demurer nature simply did not suit.
So my mother decided I should follow the family tradition of Nursing.

Hospital Training was Nursing School and a Tutor Sister with Regimental Education.
A cap completely covered the hair. The uniform fell to mid calf length.
Stockings were worn and the back seams checked to be straight.
A petticoat underneath was a must (and Sister always checked).
Feet were clad in plain brown mid-heeled leather lace ups, well shone.
Discipline……. You had no opinion and NEVER answered back!
Eyes were kept down, and hands remained behind your back whenever spoken to by a superior.


It was a fitting choice and has stood me in good stead.
Years later I attended Uni and gained my Degrees.
My Primary Alma Mater is The Australian Catholic University.

Devils Marbles (Karlu Karlu)

 

Known by the Aboriginals as Karlu Karlu, these granite boulders are an impressive sight.
Located in outback Australia driving from Tennant Creek to Alice Springs they are scattered across a wide shallow valley. 
They balance precariously on the top of one another in seemingless disarrangement.

My husband Ray appears to hold them up between him (don't be fooled)....LOL

It's difficult to see, but he's wearing a veiled hat to keep the annoying bush flies at bay.

Caravans park overnight for tourists to capture the landscapes at sunrise and sunset.

 

The environment at Devils Marbles provides shelter to a diverse range of wild life. 

The boulders are a secure breeding ground for the Fairy Martins and Zebra finches as well as many breeds of lizards. 

 

Here's two cheeky little fellows.

GOD'S BOXES

 I have in my hand 2 boxes, which God gave for me to hold.
He said,  "put all your sorrows in the black box,
and all your joys in the gold."

I heeded His words, and in the 2 boxes,
both my joys and sorrows I stored.
But though the gold became heavier each day, the black was as light as before.

With curiosity I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why.
And I saw in the base of the box, a hole,
where my sorrows had fallen by.

I showed the hole to God and mused?
"I wonder where my sorrows can be?"
He smiled a gentle smile and said.
"My child, they are all here with me!"

I asked God,
"why did you give me the boxes,
why the gold and the black with a hole?"

God answered,
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
and the black.............is for you, to let go."

AUSTRALIAN WALK-ABOUT

I realise not a lot is known about Australia (Oz).
So let's go walk-about together.

The wide, brown land: A Country, Island and Continent.

Australia is the sixth largest country in the world.
It's about the same size as the 48 mainland states of the USA and 50 per cent larger than Europe, but has the lowest population density in the world - only two people per square kilometre.
Beach paradise,  Australia’s coastline stretches almost 50,000 kilometres and is linked by over 10,000 beaches, more than any other country in the world. More than 85 per cent of Australians live within 50 kilometres of the coast, making it an integral part of our laid-back lifestyle.

Kalgoorlie in Western Australia is Australia's largest producer of gold. It also embraces the world's largest political electorate, covering a mammoth 2.2 million square kilometres.

Australia's 85.7 million sheep (mostly merinos) produce most of the world's wool. With 25.4 million head of cattle, Australia is also the world's largest exporter of beef.

Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef is home to the world’s largest oyster, weighing up to 3 kilograms, while the world’s longest earthworm, stretching up to 4 metres, is found in Gippsland in Victoria. 

The world’s longest piece of straight railway track stretches 478 kilometres across South Australia’s vast, treeless Nullarbor Plain. Australia’s longest stretch of straight road - 148 kilometres – is on the Eyre Highway in Western Australia. It’s just a tiny portion of the 2,700 kilometre sealed road that takes travellers from Perth to Adelaide. The world's longest continuous fence – the dingo fence – was built to keep sheep safe from Australia's native dog and runs for 5,531 kilometres through central Queensland and South Australia.

Today Australia is home to a wealth of wildlife not found anywhere else in the world. We have around 800 species of birds, half of which are unique to this country. Our marine environments contain more than 4,000 fish varieties and tens of thousands of species of invertebrates, plants and micro-organisms. SACRED "Underground" SUNDAY

FARAWAY.......In an underground City called Coober Pedy people worship in a different world.
 This City sits on the edge of The Stuart Ranges in the State of South Australia.

OPALS MINING abounds here and for that reason care needs to be taken.

Beautiful Opals of all different colours and size may be found.

The name Coober Pedy is Aboriginal and means "white man in hole."  

Which is applicable when you realise 80% of the townfolk live in hand cutout dwellings underground.

Temperatures of extreme heat in summer and penetrating cold in winter, makes life beneath the surface more bearable.. 

This is the outside visable entrance to one of the churches.

The interior of two (2) of the churches show how they have been hewn out of the rock.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me" (Psalms 139:7-10).

Eighteen Years Gone With The Wind

This photo of my grandsons was taken when Antonio was about 5 years old.
My eldest daughter, his Aunty dressed the boys in old world clothes prior taking the snap.

 Antonio turned eighteen years old last week. He is pictured here at school in uniform. 
In his final year he looks forward to completing exams and attaining a good O.P. result to enter University. 

Coming from an Italian background, he will spend a year in Italy before commencing studies to become a Physical Education Teacher.

Disappointments Bruise The Soul

Disappointments, Regret and Distress, all follow setbacks.
Whether losing a job, a relationship or a loved one,  they cause trauma.
And with that trauma comes physical, emotional and spiritual grieving.
No matter how prepared you are for the event, when it happens, a toll is taken.

Physically grief may cause:  Alopecia(hair loss), heart related problems (arrhythmias, hypertension)  thyroid, diabetes,  etc.

Emotional:  Depression, anxiety, weight loss, anorexia nervosa, early on-set alzheimers, etc

Spiritual:  God has left me, He doesn't care, I am being punished, etc

When you suffer a loss, no-one expects you to be a strong Rock.
Not even God expects anything of you.
In those times He holds, guides and carries you.
He is your Sheppard, the one who ever watches and never sleeps.

In the valley of dispair, His Angels keep guard over you.
Can you image seeing into the spiritual world and observing them?

Remember... after a storm comes the Rainbow.

                      

National Nurses Week

One week every year is celebrated by nurses all over the world as National Nurses week.
May the 12th is the actual Celebration Day.
This is the birth date of our founder Florence Nightingale.
Miss Nightingale was born in Florence Italy to well-to-do English parents.  
She brought ethics and standards of care to the soldiers of the Crimean War back in 1856.
Due to her dedication she helped to reduce the mortality rate of soldiers by the simple means of better nutrician and hygiene. 
Known as "The Lady with The Lamp" Florence was a woman of Faith.
She spoke a number of languages and read the New Testament in the original Greek.
Nurses: Beneficence Non Maleficence, Above all. Do No Harm.
Acts 20:35. "It is more blessed to give than receive."

Caring OR Intrusion

There is a fine line between Caring for / about someone, and intruding where you shouldn't.

This fine line is known as BOUNDARIES

Now much can be written about personal Boundaries so I'll make that a discussion for another time.

The reason I am writing about this is because I myself am guilty as I am sure many of you who read this, may be also.

So how does it start?

Generally you are a caring person, one who enjoys giving of yourself to others. Now there is nothing wrong with giving, it is commendable. However, it should not be done at the expence of overstepping another's personal boundaries. 

In other words, don't assume the other person wants, or would like you to do something?  Ask them first, and allow them to accept or reject.

Caring is: * Treating others with kindness and respect. 

  *  Being sensitive to anothers feeling.

* Giving help when needed and when asked.

* Using empathy in a caring capacity.

Common sense needs to be used for when the help is needed without the asking, (as when a person is injured).  Or, when you should ask.

Not everyone likes to recieve help, especially those with a cultural difference.

  

Intrusion is: Giving what one may consider as extra care.

In other words, going beyond that which has been asked or that which is required.

By doing this,  personel boundaries for the other person can be overstepped.

*Quote: Too often we underestimate the power of touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring.

All of which has the potential to turn a life around.

Eden's Bridge - El Shaddai

My Great Grandmother Ellen Charles "SEPIA SATURDAY"

Today I am featuring my great grandmother Ellen Charles.
Remembered for Mothers Day... I am sure this will be her first.  

 She married my great grandfather Thomas in Australia on the 21st October 1874.
Both migrated with their families from Cardigan in Wales.
Her dress was brown silk and is now on view in the Narrandera Historical Museum, New South Wales. Australia.
Ellen Gave birth to eight children. Four boys and four girls.
My grandfather Samuel, my mother's father, was her eldest son.

Sadly I don't know much about the family. I think 3 of the girls were nurses. 

One story I do remember was that the famous Bushranger Ned Kelly, came to my grandmother kitchen to get something to eat. He was fed and went on his way. 

  

Ned Kelly was born in Victoria of Irish parents.

GONE in a *FLASH*

One minute you are alive and here and the next moment you may be gone.

Of one thing I am absolutely sure. Death comes to all.

We have a stretch of highway near our town that is notorious for fatal accidents.

Last Saturday, I myself was almost killed on that road. I pulled out after checking to make sure nothing was coming. The traffic lights were in my favour so I was sure it was safe to go.

A semi was approaching slowly from approximately 100 metres away which encouraged my confidence. Unfortunatly another driver sped up and overtook, swinging into my lane and collecting my vehicle.

It all happened in a moment..... in what felt like an instant.  

Even now, one week later, I shake my head in wonder.

I am still here.... and my life continues.

Why was I spared?

I don't know?

But I do know, I might not have been.... 

Not so for a young nineteen year man, a couple of days later.

 He'd only just earned his Provisional Licence the day before. I say earned because it's a long journey of lesson hours with a log book before the final Testing.  

 If after that 'Provisional' year you get through without a blemish, you may proudly pocket a Regular Licence. 

He pulled out as I had, failing to see a Road Train (Double Semi) approaching.  

In a *FLASH* his car was torn in half, and his spirit departed. 

I cannot imagine the despair his family felt when informed?

The shock, the disbelief, the grief! 

He was only nineteen!

Questions arise?

Why him?  Why not me? 

I know I am ready to go!

I have a strong faith and no fear.  I have led my life. 

I married, gave birth, watched my children grow, returned to my profession and continued my education. I am now retired. I have travelled and I have done, much with my life...

It just goes to prove. Death can come at any age. 

Life sits on a precipice of time, where there are, no boundaries. 

We all need to ask ourselves, "Am I ready when my time comes?

How do I stand with God?

Have I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savour?

Or do I THINK, I have Plenty of Time."

John 3:16, deliver's a Message.

"For God So Loved the World, that He Gave,

His One and Only Son.

So that, whoever (Truely) believes in Him,

shall not Perish (go to Hell),

but will have, Eternal Life (In Heaven)."

   

COME INTO MY HEART LORD JESUS

THE FATHER GOD SAY'S

He came to demonstrate that I am for you, not against you. Romans 8:31

And to tell you I am not counting your sins against you. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19

Jesus died so that you and I could be reconciled. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19

His death was the ultermate expression of my love for you. 1John 4:10

I gave up everything I loved that I might gain your love. Romans 8 31-32

If you receive the gift of my son Jesus, you receive ME. 1John 2:23

And nothing will ever separate you from my love again. Romans 8:38-39

"VISIONS" Spiritual Sunday

      

“What are you doing?” Tim…..following closely behind the two girls crashed into them from behind as they stopped.. .. The three children stood and stared, transfixed in awe… It looked like him… It seemed like Him… It was the very description of Him! The sweet gentle face, the tender feeling of love and peace…… Could it be?

Visions, is the name of this thought provoking story. It was written by a man with a dream. A man of a certain faith. One who still believes that miracles can happen to-day.


How many of us who profess to be Christian still have that ability? I wonder? Could God Himself have inspired this book to be written? I cannot say no! As I believe NOTHING is impossible for Him.


Didn’t He cause a donkey to talk? Numbers 22:1-35. How impossible is that?


How could three young men walk in a fiery furnace without being burned or even scorched? Daniel 3: 1-30

God does what He wants to do when He wants to do it! Didn’t He choose Saul of Taurus a persecutor of the believers to become Paul, the man who gave the “Good News” to the Gentiles…. Acts Chapter: 22.


To be a believer, one must have FAITH…. that NOTHING, is impossible.
