Lorakeet Alarm ~ Gods Creation

I'm retired, and the good part about that is, I go to bed when I like and get up the same.
However, spring is coming and our fruit trees and native plants are blooming.
This brings a variety of parrots in to feed.

This morning a whole flock descended onto the huge bottle brush tree at the side of my bedroom window.
I don't mind them eating from there, but I do mind the time, it was 5:30am.
Their chatter was deafening.
Getting up and looking out of the window, I clapped my hands and yelled at them to go away.
Finally they did, with a few coming back later to eat alone.

Here is my bottle brush tree, with a Rainbow Lorakeet enjoying a feed.

Looking through the bedroom window...

They are about the size of a six weeks chicken... They look pretty, but what a pest!!
Here they are nesting for the night in the trees in our town park.

Our Mango tree is presently in full bloom. It the storms don't destroy the flowers we'll have a good crop this year. Then, these little critters along with all the other parrot life, will be visiting for a feed.

The fruit bats also fly in, in hoards silently at night.... Its almost time to hang a sensor hooting owl up to scare them all away.
"Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind." (Job 12:7-10)

  1. Those parrots, despite their noise, certainly are beautiful! I love mangos- I would probably eat all the fruit myself if we had a tree. You live in a lovely part of the world~

    1. Ha Ha... I love mango also.. Can't eat them all, we get too many. We eat, give them away, and cut them up and freeze them. Ray loves them with ice-cream. When they are ripe (about December)I'll let you see them. They are bigger than a baseball.

    1. Yes I love birds also. We have many here due to the warm climate and fruit crops.

  3. I've gotten up more than once this summer to close the window. I guess those feathery little devils are more industrious than I!

    1. Than me either. Now if I was still getting up at that time to go to work I wouldn't worry. September heralds Spring in, so we are out of winter. I am a fresh air, outdoors person and mostly have all the doors and windows open. We have screen doors and they are closed. I rarely sleep with the front bedroom windows open,in case a carpet snake slithers in. There is no screen on them to keep anything out.

  4. We have had at one time a walnut tree, and another time an almond tree, and squirrels took every single nut off those trees. Well they need to eat too. Your photos are lovely and the birds are waiting for their harvest. Thank you for sharing at Tell Me a True story. I am about a fourth way through your book. My wait at the Dr office was not long enough to read further. Now it sits in my bathroom on my table there along with my Bible and devotional material. Sneeking a read during the day is good.

    1. I remember seeing cracked nuts on the ground where we lived in TN. The first time I saw them I thought my hubby Ray did it..LOL Its hard to believe they can do that with their teeth. We'd break ours.

  7. Both trees and birds are gorgeous! But the bats--at least that's what I think they are--too scary! We had a problem with bats in one of the convents where I lived--i was always petrified!!

    1. Good on you for rising early. I believe its the best part of the day. I used to like near the ocean and loved to watch the sun rise over the water.

  9. It is an amazing world that you live in. I see your window in your bedroom and I know that you don't have cold winters. We have to be locked up tight and let none of the arctic air come into the house. Your birds are somewhat like our sparrows who will attack a feeder in and instant and then all fly away at the same time. Sparrows are only a little noisy though.

    1. Birds are amazing aren't they. We don't get many cold winter days, yet I still keep the bedroom window open a little. Fresh air is so healthy.

  14. Beautiful birds and I love the bats too. :) I am a morning person and love hearing birds wake me up. Right now we are in the fall season and the coyotes are gathering together in packs. Every single night while I am trying to fall asleep, they are howling and yipping setting my dogs off into a chorus of howls. It is a mishmash of wild and domestic noise and I totally love it except for the fact that it happens when lights go out. :s

God's creatures are all beautiful, I just wish their timing was a bit better.

Blessings hon and thank you so much for the words of encouragement you gave me. Hugs.

  15. When we lived in Uganda some of these bits would happen. Not enough, in some ways. Yes, the bats [either in trees or over our ceiling area], birds hitting the mango trees, the bottle brush trees. Oh, I miss these trees so much ... they just ain't gonna grow in my part of the country. Another thing I miss is having geckos in the house. We loved them over there. They are in other parts of the States, but not here. Dave and I truly miss them... You had me sighing. AND, of course, you're hitting Spring as we're hitting the opposite. Heading different directions so soon.

    1. Yes we also have the little geckos running all over the house. They are so cute.

  16. Dear Crystal, I'm still searching for a name for my home! And as to parrots and bats, I don't have any experience of them. Cats are my forte! Peace.

    1. Don't know if you would like this??? Most know that the Hebrew word shalom is understood around the world to mean "peace." However, "peace" is only one small part of the meaning. "Shalom" is used to both greet people and to bid them farewell, and it means much more than "peace, hello or goodbye"....

    2. Dear Crystal, what a wonderful suggestion: Shalom. Yes, I do like that and I use the word Peace to end all my e-mails and comments. Thank you so much for suggesting this. Peace.
