A Great Miracle

An Incredible Story

Map of Australia

Last year Alaskan fireman Robert Bogucki aged thirty three, set out on a mission.

He wanted to cross the Great Sandy Dessert in Western Australia.
Measuring 163900 sq miles, this dessert is the second largest and one of the most remote in Australia.
Since the age of fifteen, Robert had become obsessed with the idea of one day surviving in the wilderness for 40 days and nights like Jesus.            Then while on a bike riding trip across Australia the idea became a reality with him ditching his bike and taking off on foot to test his faith and find answers to questions???

Robert had read about how the Australian indigenous people could find water in their arid land. On the occasional sightings of dessert animals and often when he was on the verge of dehydration he was led to water.
How many of us would test our faith to the limit like this?
It's not recommended!!! But then, Robert was a remarkable man.

When Roberts discarded bike with clothing and food supplies were found a search was immediately formed. Aboriginal trackers were brought in yet after following his tracks for days they eventually gave up.                    Roberts parents hired a specialist team from the USA and together with Broome police the search was resumed. No one expected to find him alive.

He made the ultimate sacrifice and survived forty three days alone with his God. Although without food for six weeks and water for 12 days, he was still able to walk to the search helicopter. He had lost thirty kilo's or sixty six pounds in weight. It was a life changing experience and he found his answers....

Psalms 139:7-12
Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"

Even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.....

This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God...

  4. crystal mary, this is fascinating!! i have never read of someone who was so willing to experience the actual walk of Christ. reading through the story with amazement at his faith, i found that i wasn't shocked to find that he'd been without water for 12 days-an unheard of feat and he really should have been dead!
reading this, and his simple act of faith IS nothing short of a miracle!! i've got to google him now because i have to know what it was that he was looking for!
God bless you my dear friend!

  5. It is an amazing story; not sure if we are called to Test God in this particular way, but apparently God lead him in this.

  8. I love to hear of inspiring stories like that. If God can do that, certainly he can take care of me in my "safe" suburban lifestyle... More faith, Lord!

  10. I can't condone his not thinking about the concerns of others. No doubt hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars were spent trying to find him, and that doesn't count the worry of his friends and relatives.

Of course, when I do stupid things and the Lord presrves me, I always quote the old saying about the Lord watching over fools and little children!

Considering that he did it, I guess it's good that he learned something from it. I just hope that one of those things is not to do it again without addressing the concerns of others.

  13. What great faith. His hunger for God superceded his physical needs and he went for it. He will never be the same. What an inspiration. The Lord doesn't ask us to cross a huge desert, He asks us to share the Gospel message wherever we are. Thank you so much for the inspiring post. God bless you, Bobbi

  15. You are correct in your diagnosis of burnout. I'm being a good girl and following my PCP's orders to just go to work and then rest and not try to conquor the world. I take the stress B Complex plus other supplements. I guess I was just pushing beyond my limit. Perhaps I should listen more to what the Lord is wanting me to do and not do what I think I should be doing for the Lord. Thanks for your caring and encouraging words. God bless.

  17. Blessings to all.

    Thank you for your contributions.

Georges,Yes, as you, I wondered how he could do a seemingless irresponsible act. Yet he was amazed when found that anyone actually worried? Never-the-less his heart for the Lord was in the right place, and he suceeded. ITS NOT AN ACT TO FOLLOW!!

Sandie, Please research him on the net and read more.

  18. This incident didn't happen last year by the way. This happened in 1999 not 2009. I don't know about you but endurance testing isn't exactly what is prescribed by the bible to "find God". To "find God" is to know God's will and to know God's will is to know His word. Read it, meditate on it and you will "find God". I was a student in Perth when Robert Bogucki made headlines. Viewers each day were all mesmerized as to what the latest updates on Robert. The general consensus was ...this guy's nuts. Even after he was found, generally everybody thought he was crazy and definitely stupid. This isn't the type of testimony a believer should project to the world.

    Cheers,

    Gene

  19. This story sheds some light on what happened when Jesus Christ fasted and prayed for forty days without food and water. Our Lord did it for a reason. Brother Robert Bogucki did it for a reason too. Praise God that the Lord gives him the answers to his questions and supplied all his needs (not wants) for 43 days.

If the Israel of old thinks the same way with Robert, they could inhabit the Promised Land in 40 days but because of pride, it took them 40 years to reach Canaan.
