ME-ism

I had never heard of Me-ism until of late.
And I recognize it is speaking of myself.

I had been asked to think about leading the service in Church.
Who Me!! No way, I am past all of that, I'm getting too old and tired.
One of the younger ones can do it, I'll sit back and enjoy... Me-ism.

I think many of us are getting complacent.
We'd rather sit back and watch than do the work..
Of course there are many good excuses, and I search in my mind to find the best ones.
I have worked all my life, let someone who never volunteer for anything do it.

But then I learnt about Me-ism, and I felt ashamed.
I know I am capable, so why am I so lazy?
Life is not about, me me me..
Its about us. All of us, because we all count as valuable.

Philippians 2:3&4 "consider that others are superior to you… keeping an eye, not in personal interest upon just YOUR own matters, but also in personal interest upon those of the others."

Nothing is impossible to them that believe.

  3. I've always considered there to be a whole lot more meant to it than that, but maybe that's just over here. Your point is certainly valid. Sadly, one reason we need to keep our shoulder to the wheel is simply because so many others WON'T! Bless you for all you do.

  5. Hi Crystal Mary,
Wonderful post!! It is so true, this me-ism. My church is about 70% older generation of 70+ and they don't want to even help out anymore, they only want to be served. I know they are tire and have worked hard their whole life and they want to see the younger generation help out, which is understandable. But, if we look at the people in Scripture, they worked their whole life for God. Older age didn't stop them, they were useful. I have been doing some studying on George Mueller and I read that when he turned 70 years old, he decided it was time for him to travel and do missionary work. He did this for 20 years and then died at the age of 92 or 93.

Bless your heart for being obedient to the calling our Father has laid on you. You are an inspiration!!

  7. Love your poem. We humans can be very selfish, can't we? Sometimes we do think that life is all about US.. It's a "ME" generation.. I find, as I get older, that it's easy for me to say NO ---because I've been there-done that! It's also easy to say that since I spent my life doing for others, it is now time (since I'm older) to take care of ME.... I do think there is some GOOD in that though since we do need to take care of ourselves first before we take care of others. BUT--when it's ALL about US, then that is when it's wrong... Great poem --to make us all think.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  8. Dear Crystal, your words are really true about me also. I volunteered for about 35 years in Minnesota and when I moved here to Missouri,
I right away signed up to volunteer and then got sick for two years and now that I'm well I've decided that I'm volunteered out. And yet
I do know that something is missing from my life. So you've given me something to think about. Thank you. Peace.

  9. Hi Crystal Mary,
This post was very thought provoking. I thought it was going to be more about pride (self pride), than about an unwillingness to serve...I guess I have been guilty of both kinds of
    me-ism! Thanks for sharing this.~God bless~

  11. That's the disease that is continually ailing the world today. I know there's a cure but people don't seem interested to be healed. Crazy world we live in... and sad too :(

  16. I have a friend who has a heart of gold. She does almost anything for anyone who asks. I believe God blessed her with such a spirit and that she will be rewarded (probably being rewarded currently, too). Here comes the but :) People "know" this about her and will (in my opinion) take advantage of her kindness. I have even had to tell myself on occasion to say "no" when she asks if I need help with something, which of course would make my life easier if I let her help.

Just from reading your blog over the years, I know that you are not a selfish person; that you are very giving. When you are asked to do something, please be sure that it is God asking you to do so, and not someone who thinks, "Crystal will do it."

We all need the rest that God so graciously gives us.
